As an official checkpoint host for the 2026 Mythbusters EV Rally, Qwello will be helping teams recharge in Solihull while showcasing the role destination charging can play in making EVs more convenient. Martin Hale shares further details 

We are delighted that Qwello is taking part in this year’s EV Rally. What made you decide to get involved?

We’ve long admired the phenomenal work GreenFleet achieves through the EV Rally, proving year after year that electric vehicles are not just a futuristic vision, but a practical, everyday reality. Having recently secured major public sector contracts to expand accessible charging infrastructure across key UK regions, getting directly involved felt like a natural next step. The EV Rally provides the ultimate platform to highlight how seamless public EV charging can be, and we are thrilled to support the cause by partnering as a official checkpoint host.
 
Can you tell us about Team Qwello – who will be taking part and what vehicles will you be driving?

While our team won’t be behind the wheel on the open road this year, we’ll be putting in the work where it counts most, on the ground! Our team, alongside our own fleet of electric support vehicles, will be stationed at Checkpoint 1 in Solihull. We’ll be welcoming the drivers at the end of Stage One, ensuring their vehicles get charged smoothly while giving them a firsthand look at our latest charging technology.
 
From the perspective of a public charging operator, how do you expect the UK’s charging infrastructure to perform during the EV rally?

The UK’s rapid network is vital for long-distance transit, but our core mission focuses on empowering the drivers who need it most, specifically those without access to home driveways. There’s often a misconception that EV charging must mirror the high-speed 'petrol station model.' In reality, the fastest, most convenient charging happens passively when your vehicle is already stationary while you sleep, work, or explore a destination. Rapid chargers extend range on the go, but high-uptime destination AC charging forms the true backbone of daily e-mobility. We expect the UK network to show massive strides in reliability and accessibility throughout the rally.
 
There will also be a focus on trucks this year, with visits to some new e-HGV charging hubs in the UK. Why does this matter?

Commercial goods transport and public transit represent the next crucial frontier in decarbonising the UK’s transport sector. For years, heavy transport was seen as 'too difficult' to electrify, but rapid innovation from bus and truck manufacturers has completely flipped that narrative. Combined with high-power depot and hub charging, electrifying HGVs is no longer a concept, it is a viable, high-impact commercial reality that will dramatically slash urban emissions.


This year's rally theme is busting EV myths and misinformation. Is there a particular myth that you would like to challenge on the rally?

The biggest myth we want to bust is the idea that slow charging is an inconvenience. Many internal combustion engine (ICE) drivers assume EV ownership requires sitting around waiting at charging stations. But the absolute fastest way to charge an EV is passively while you are doing something else; sleeping overnight, shopping, or working. You can’t leave a petrol car to refill itself while you sleep! Destination AC charging integrates so seamlessly into daily life that it actually saves time compared to visiting a traditional fuel station.
 
You’re also hosting a checkpoint this year. What can teams expect when they get there?

Rally teams arriving at Checkpoint 1 in Solihull will enjoy complimentary overnight AC charging on our state-of-the-art 22kW destination charge points, located just a short walk from their hotels. We’ll be giving live demonstrations on how drivers can seamlessly discover, reserve, and manage charging sessions using the Qwello app. Supported by our integrated bay-detection sensors and user-centric hardware, drivers will wake up to refreshed, fully charged vehicles, perfectly primed to tackle Stage Two.
 
Looking ahead, what are Qwello’s future plans, and how is the company helping fleets progress towards their net-zero goals?

Qwello is rapidly expanding across the UK. Building on the success of our European partners, who already manage tens of thousands of charge points across continental Europe, we’ve secured major UK public sector contracts to fully fund, install, operate, and maintain thousands of feature-rich destination chargers. We are placing infrastructure precisely where it’s needed most: in residential streets for drivers without off-street parking, and at key commercial and public destinations. By providing reliable, accessible destination charging, we give commercial fleets, taxi operators, and everyday drivers the confidence to make the permanent shift to zero-emission transport.
