As Tusker returns for its third EV Rally, the company is continuing its mission to demonstrate the benefits of electric driving and challenge the misconceptions that still surround EV adoption. Tusker's managing director Kit Wisdom discusses how the rally has evolved, why range anxiety is becoming a thing of the past and how salary sacrifice schemes are helping make electric vehicles more accessible
This marks Tusker’s third year taking part in the EV Rally. What motivated the team to return again this year?
The EV Rally is a fantastic opportunity for us to demonstrate what’s possible with electric cars in real-world conditions. while continuing to raise awareness of the benefits of making the switch and the advantages of accessing an EV through salary sacrifice. We work with thousands of drivers and fleets who are transitioning to EVs, so taking part allows us to showcase first-hand how far the technology, infrastructure and driver confidence have come.
It’s also a great way to engage with other organisations in the sector, share experiences, and continue championing the move towards cleaner, more sustainable transport.
Taking part in the Rally also gives us the chance to challenge some of the misconceptions that still exist around EVs, whether that's about range, charging or day-to-day usability, and show that electric driving is a practical option for more people than ever before.
Most importantly we deliver all of this engagement whilst having great fun with the EV Rally team!
How has the EV Rally evolved since you first took part? Has the challenge of driving long distances in an EV got easier?
The rally has evolved significantly over the past few years, particularly in terms of charging infrastructure, route planning and overall awareness of EV capability. When we first took part, there was still a lot of uncertainty around range anxiety and charging reliability - those questions come up far less often today.
In 2026, long-distance EV driving has definitely become easier and more accessible.
The expansion of rapid charging networks across the UK has made a huge difference, as has the increased range and efficiency of modern EVs. There’s also a much better understanding now of how to plan journeys effectively and make the most of charging stops. Events like the EV Rally help demonstrate that EVs are more than capable of handling long journeys across the country.
Looking back on previous rallies, what key lessons or experiences will help Team Tusker this year?
Every year we pick up a few new lessons, but the fundamentals remain pretty consistent. Good route planning is key, knowing where the best charging locations are and understanding your charging options along the route.
Having a good navigator is also worth its weight in gold in the Rally! It’s about much more than simply getting from A to B, so having someone keeping an eye on the route, charging stops and timings makes a huge difference.
And of course, it's not all serious planning. One of the great things about the EV Rally is that it's a chance to have some fun while demonstrating what's possible with electric vehicles. A supply of road-trip snacks and a carefully curated Tuskeroke playlist are just as important as the charging strategy!
But, more than anything, previous rallies have shown us that many of the common concerns people still have about EVs don't match the reality. The Rally gives us a brilliant platform to challenge those myths, show how capable modern EVs are, and enjoy the journey along the way.
What further improvements would you like to see in the UK’s EV charging infrastructure?
The UK charging network has improved enormously, but there’s still work to do to ensure drivers everywhere have a consistent experience.
Reliability and maximum uptime across all charging networks remains essential, as does improving access in more rural and remote locations. Simpler payment systems and better interoperability between providers has really helped make public charging more seamless for drivers so we’d love to see this continue.
As EV adoption continues to grow, we’ll also need to see further investment in high-capacity rapid charging hubs to support increasing demand from both private motorists and business fleets.
This year's rally theme is busting EV myths and misinformation. Is there a particular myth that you will be addressing on the rally?
One of the biggest myths we continue to hear is that EVs aren’t suitable for everyone but the reality is that there are now EVs with some really impressive ranges.
The charging infrastructure also continues to improve year-on-year too, bringing down charging times while improving availability at more locations and with more chargers available.
With a little planning, long journeys in an EV are straightforward, comfortable and often more relaxing than people expect. So even for those who travel long distances, there’s now an EV to suit.
Another misconception we'd like to challenge is that electric cars are only an option for those with large budgets. Through salary sacrifice, many employees can access a brand-new EV for less than they might expect, thanks to tax and National Insurance savings. We're also seeing a growing popularity of Pre-Loved EVs being taken on our scheme, helping make electric driving even more affordable and accessible.
Can you tell us more about Team Tusker this year – who will be taking part and what vehicles will you be driving?
This year’s Team Tusker will bring together colleagues from across the business who are all passionate about helping drivers transition to electric driving.
We’ll be taking part in both a Pre-Loved and one of the latest new EVs – to showcase the variety of options now available to drivers. That's important for us because it reflects the range of options now available to drivers and reinforces the message that EVs can be both accessible and affordable, whether you're looking at a brand-new vehicle or a used one.
The team is really looking forward to representing Tusker on the rally again and sharing our experience throughout the journey.
Looking ahead, what are Tusker’s future plans, and how is the business helping fleets progress towards their net-zero goals?
At Tusker, our focus remains on helping UK employees drive a better car. As part of that, we remain focused on helping organisations and their employees make the transition to lower-emission cars as simple and accessible as possible.
Salary sacrifice continues to play a major role in accelerating EV adoption, and we’re seeing increasing demand from organisations looking to support their sustainability and net-zero ambitions while also providing valuable employee benefits.
Looking ahead, we’ll continue investing in driver support and information to help businesses navigate the transition with confidence.
There's still work to do in raising awareness and challenging misconceptions, but the direction of travel is clear. Our goal is to make electric driving a realistic option for as many people as possible in a way that's practical, affordable and sustainable and promote the benefits of considering a used EV as well.
