Drivetech is back for the 2025 Explorer EV Rally, bringing cutting-edge electric vehicles and expertise in safer, smarter and more sustainable driving. Jennifer Morris, Head of Drivetech's Commercial Development explains how the rally provides a hands-on opportunity to share knowledge, explore innovation and support fleets on their electrification journey.
We are delighted that Drivetech is joining us again on the EV Rally. What has made you decide to take part again this year?
We're thrilled to be returning to the EV Rally. At Drivetech and The AA, we see this event as an opportunity to put our commitments to sustainable mobility into action. Each year, the rally allows us to engage directly with other industry leaders, share learning, and showcase the innovations helping to accelerate the EV transition. It’s a chance to be part of something positive, collaborative, and future-focused - which aligns perfectly with our values too.
As longstanding participants of the Rally, how have you seen the challenge evolve over the years?
Since its inception in 2021, the rally has evolved from a straightforward endurance challenge to a dynamic platform highlighting innovation, collaboration, and the real-world experiences of fleet operators. Each year, we see more diverse vehicle types, smarter use of charging infrastructure, and increasing emphasis on education and data. It’s also clear the narrative has shifted. It’s not just about how far you can go anymore – it’s about how effectively and efficiently you can integrate clean energy and smarter driving.
This year the focus is less on miles travelled and more on innovation and clean energy. How important is innovation in the EV narrative?
Innovation is critical. From vehicle technology and battery management systems to training, infrastructure, and driver behaviour tools - it's all evolving so rapidly. At Drivetech, we're already using technology to increase access to our driver training solutions, via VR tools, and online platforms, helping organisations and individuals gain confidence in new technologies. Without innovation, the EV transition would stall. With it, we can accelerate a cleaner, safer future.
What tips can you give to new participants on getting the most out of their EV?
First, plan ahead. Especially when it comes to charging infrastructure. Familiarise yourself with your vehicle’s range and optimal driving settings. Second, drive smart. Use regenerative braking, monitor your energy use, and adapt your driving style to maximise efficiency. And finally, stay calm! EVs are remarkably capable, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn and build confidence. We’ll be sharing tips along the way to help teams make the most of their vehicles throughout the rally.
Please tell us about your team - who is driving and in what vehicles?
Our rally vehicles for ‘Explorer’ will be the new all-electric Ford Capri and a vehicle selected from one of our newest OEM customers, which will be announced shortly. We have a team of both experienced and new EV Rally drivers this year, as well as our two amazing Patrols of the Year, all coming together to make up our team from both The AA and Drivetech and fully equipped to support all of the rally teams.
You're also joining the Rally as its Driver Training Partner. Can you tell us what this means and how teams will benefit?
As the rally’s driver training Partner, Drivetech will provide practical support throughout the event, from efficiency tips to best-practice driving guidance too. Our broader mission is to help fleets and drivers transition confidently into the world of EVs through education - something that goes far beyond the rally. Via digital learning, VR simulations and tailored training programmes, we help businesses understand not just how to drive EVs, but how to do so safely, economically, and with long-term behavioural change in mind.
Please tell us about DriveTech’s future plans.
At Drivetech, we’re focused on building smarter, safer, and more sustainable roads. As part of The AA, we’re leveraging new technologies - from AI-powered learning tools to virtual reality - to stay ahead of the curve. We’re evolving our services to meet the needs of tomorrow’s fleets, helping businesses reduce risk, enhance driver performance, and embrace innovation. Our team recently launched our Halo Insights tool, which helps to drive fleet efficiency too, standing out by offering simplicity and convenience for fleet managers through diverse data sources integration, providing an accurate picture of risk and costs with automated educational interventions. It also helps them to leverage data on fleet utilisation that can guide future decisions on when to transition to EVs.
The future of mobility is changing fast. We’re so proud to be playing a role in helping to shape it.
