Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre: Supporting a Low-Carbon Future

As part of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre is proud to contribute to the organisation’s drive towards net zero operational emissions by 2040. Located in a unique natural setting in North Wales, the site generates renewable electricity on-site through a 15kW solar panel system and a hydroelectric generator, reducing reliance on grid electricity and lowering carbon emissions.

These measures reflect Welsh Water’s wider renewable energy strategy. Across its operations, the company generates energy from a balanced mix of sources: 45% hydro, 45% combined heat and power (CHP), 5% wind, and 5% solar. This investment in clean energy forms part of Welsh Water’s commitment as a not-for-profit to protect the environment and build climate resilience across Wales.

At Llyn Brenig, sustainability is embedded in both operational infrastructure and the visitor experience. The centre continues to explore further opportunities to reduce its carbon footprint while supporting education, biodiversity, and responsible tourism.

Through local initiatives like these, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is demonstrating how decarbonisation can be delivered at every level of the business—from major treatment works to valued community destinations like Llyn Brenig
